PRESS: Russian Railways wants to raise tariffs to unload eastern route

MOSCOW, Feb 14 (PRIME) -- Russian Railways has suggested raising cargo tariffs for 2024 and 2025, business daily Vedomosti reported on Tuesday citing a protocol of a meeting with First Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Belousov earlier in February, while a source close to the company said that it intends to unload the eastern route.

"The protocol says that Russian Railways suggested setting a 1% targeted surcharge on the tariffs to compensate security spending in 2024 and a 2% surcharge in 2025. The monopoly also suggests raising the tax surcharge to the tariffs to 2.5% from 1.5% in 2024 and to reduce tariff preferences on empty run of universal railcars… and containers," the report read.

The company also suggested adjusting the tariffs on transportation eastwards and to the north-west of the country.

A source close to the company said that the company wants to unload the eastern route by motivating to carry more cargo to the northwestern ports. The company declined to comment.
